The SCMA was originally established in November 2004 and was under management by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). Acting on industry feedback, the SCMA was reconstituted in May 2009 as a company limited by guarantee and the SCMA started functioning independently.
The aim of the SCMA is to provide a framework for maritime arbitration which is responsive to the needs of the maritime community. The SCMA has members drawn from all sectors of the maritime community and from all countries. There is no distinction in the class of membership or their entitlements – all sectors of the maritime community are treated equally as all sectors are users of SCMA.
Funding for the establishment and continued operation of the SCMA comes from the Singapore Maritime Foundation. Management of SCMA is overseen by a board of directors which is led by our Chairman, Mr. Goh Joon Seng.

The Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) was established in March 2014 as an independent, not-for-profit company. The SIMC aims to provide best-in-class mediation services and products targeted at the needs of parties in cross-border commercial disputes, particularly those based in Asia.
Hosting an experienced panel of international mediators drawn from Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe as well as North and South America, SIMC will offer, amongst other things, professional appointing authority and case management services under the SIMC Rules.
